Shagged Out for a Good Cause

The IHH Singapore Sea Regatta 2024 last Sunday was the first edition of a dragonboat race promoting awareness of breast cancer and active aging. It also launched another first, a biathlon where the timing taken into account is a cumulative of a sprint on land and a sprint on the water. Zaim did well carrying the team running from the longkang of Helix Bridge to the Water Sports Centre.

Team Kraken sent in 4 boats in 3 categories. In the current absence of a coach, Coach Guan Wee stepped up to provide guidance. Many of our rowers had to race in multiple events back-to-back from morning to evening. The guys paddled a total of 7 times! The Cat1 during lunch break was a welcome breather.

TM Hamdan commented that, 'This biathlon is a first of such race and it was an exciting one". CK, a member, summarized, "Even though we didn't win any medal, everyone did their best for every set and managed to 'bite on' with other teams". Coach GW reminded us to stay serious and do our best throughout a race even when not knowing what to expect.

Thank you race organizers for the initiative, Punggol Coast CSN for the continued support and everyone involved for playing a role towards this good cause.

Below are report card for best timings:

Biathlon - 2:46.644 minutes (300 m run + 150 m row)

Mixed A - 3:07.469 minutes (300 m row)

Mixed B - 3:08.450 minutes (300 m row)

Opens - 4:35.577 minutes (300 m row)
