Gentle Waves Ushers in the First Sea Race

Although the idea is not new and it is technically not the first ever sea race in Singapore, it is indeed the first for many local dragonboaters as the last one was 27 years ago. We are proud that our TM and his love for the sport were the catalyst that made this project more than a pipe dream. The small sandy beach accessible from Passion Wave of Pasir Ris came alive last weekend with Waves of Unity dragonboat race.
It is classic PA move to have an inclusive event where everyone wins something. Participants either gained gifts from the mini festival or coloured cookies on stage from the races.
Team Kraken participated in the both days it ran. On Saturday our PA GRO Mixed were crewed with 18 paddlers from different organisations. Reason for the lesser number of paddlers on big boats is "to reduce weight for unknown first time sea conditions", said the event's ever-cautious project manager. On Sunday we sent down ladies boat (on a big boat!) crewed with 10 of our original Kraken members.
Our Coach GW thanked our guest paddlers and commented, "for the mixed crew, it was a unity of different teams coming together rowing towards the finish line as a crew", whereas "for the ladies team, it was a unity of different ages facing the tough challenges from other strong teams".
The organizer is open for feedback. So you can sent in yours and be sure that Waves of Unity 2.0 will be bigger and better.
Best timing:
