STORY TELLING
BIRTH OF THE TITAN
Welcome to Team Kraken Singapore! We are a dragon-boat team who gets it.
Our team thrives by balancing our approach to training well, between being demanding and understanding, lighthearted but not lightweight.
The team aims to engage the community through dragon-boating, nurture passion for the sport through training which is suitable for all ages and fitness levels, and to promote friendship among members which extend beyond training hours.
One of our senior members, Terence Kiew, said it best when he was encouraging participation of those above 40 in one of our next overseas races. He exclaimed that in the next World Nation Championship we may not get the same mates with the same passion to fight for the same target.
So, do come join us for a try out.

Before I was introduced to dragon-boating, I was not a very sporty person. Luckily an ex-colleague who was a coach exposed me to it in 2008 and his passion rubbed off on me. This sport where teamwork is key interests me because every single crew on the boat is equally important.
There are many roles in the boat one can master. From being one of the paddlers I became a captain, then now runs the team as the Team Manager. In 2016, my qualification to coach was acquired, but my efforts to make myself competent to sit in any role on the boat do not stop there.
What I love is to assist coaches and teammates building up the team, getting newbies to love the sport and excel in it – even my kids have been in my boat - and motivate people to continue do physical activities to keep fit and healthy.

My dragon-boat journey started in the year 1999 when I was introduced to it by one of my colleagues during a trial. Since then, my passion for the sport grew and I became a certified trainer in 2006. My role is to impart the skills and knowledge that was acquired throughout the years in the community.
It is most rewarding to see people of different age groups, genders and walks of life working together for a common goal, I believe everyone and anyone can be a dragon-boater and enjoy the sport.
