Celebrate PAssion with a Passion

A few years back there was what is called DBS Marina Regatta which was held on the promenade that stretch between the Marina Bay Financial Centre and The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands. The last of which was just before the Covid19 pandemic happened. But in the near future, doing various water sports at this place may just be the new normal.

PAssion Wave who has been around since it was People's Association Adventure Club in 1974, turned 50 this year and celebrated this occasion with months-long activities open for public. It opened with the led-decorated night paddling from Team Kraken's old training ground PW Marina Bay all the way to the Merlion and back. And it ends this month with a bang - with the Amazing Race last Saturday - officiated by Senior Minister Zaqy Mohamad.

A host of 22-crew dragonboats set off in waves to complete a set of stations. Each boat represents a certain community and public were encouraged to sign-up to represent where they live. First-timers and seasoned rowers came together and had fun trying to answer questions posed at each station. Questions included meaning of sailing lingos, history of PW and facts about dragon-boats. Amazingly, Pasir Ris Punggol GRC's boat - made up of Punggol Coast CSN DB ig members and residents of Pasir Ris and Punggol - won 2nd place in this Amazing Race.

There was a goodie bag, vouchers and food coupons for every participant. There were ergo (rowing machine) competition, games and redeemables. The free popcorn was popular even with the tourists. Public also went on the pedal boats as the event progressed. With PW, there is something for everyone. This successful fun race was a good start of PW becoming more accessible with the PAssion Wave Outpost @ Bayfront project due to open next year!
