Making History at Century Race 2024

On the last weekend before Ramadan month began, Team Kraken descended upon Century Race 2024. The race is an annual 100-meter dash at Jurong Lake, but for the first time since conception eight years ago, the ladies of Kraken did really well.
Team Kraken sent in one boat in PA GRO Open, one boat in Century Opens, two boats in Century Women – both of which proceeded to final - and one boat in PA GRO Mixed categories. All but the last category raced on Saturday where the weather was nicely overcast, but the paddlers racing on Sunday were drenched.
During the semi-final for PA GRO Open, a capsize by another team led to time trial for two of the other boats involved in the three-boat mishap. What it meant for Team Kraken was that we narrowly missed out to progress on to the platinum final. A bit of a bad luck there, but overall the vibes were positive and supportive, thanks to the cool calm and collected Coach Terence and TM Hamdan.
Coach T called for a refocus on what is important – to know what went right and wrong during Century Race and prepare for Singapore Dragon Boat Festival race. Our new class monitor, Captain Muliadi shared a similar sentiment, hoping what went down this time would make us hungry for more.
Here are the report card on best timing:
PA GRO Open 36:358
Century Opens 32:857
Century Women CSN A 36:934
Century Women CSN B 38:025
PA GRO Mixed 37:871
